mistersuuns Ohhh yeeaaaaahhh!!!
Raw, creative, funny, and honest, with a nice indie punk feel. Sweet absurdity juxtaposed with hard vocal flashes, in particular on “Peter Gutteridge.” I’m excited for the next set of tracks. More please.
Ben Harris

Ben Harris "I learned that power breeds dicks... No minimum wage is worth this" ---The vocalist is brimming over with personality and has great comedic timing with the all-too-real one-liners. I hope they put out a full-length soon! Favorite track: Chocolate Factory.

Hey I remember what you pretend to forget Silence doesn't mean it didn't happen What a shame that it was a given that I would be here when you left What a pain that I couldn't give you what you needed Why is desire better than having it? I don't understand You look good, but I'm deluded Cause the thought gets caught in my head It goes round then down again And then pops in an instant, ugh, pathetic Whoa Thought I had to revisit the past, but then I did and it was shit. Fuck it. Became a feminist, still like my tits in a bra. Ever the optimist, used to think sex didn't matter at all: ignorant. Cause it's kinda hard not to sense the indifference. Once all those microaggressions form a wall 10,000 feet tall

Slow clap Made it to the bottom, blind by entitlement Pay back Welcome to the factory and life's limits Fuck that Thought I liked it rough, glad that now makes me laugh, ha ha I learned my lessons in the chocolate factory Thanks but I'm not here to hold your coffee I may wear a uniform, but you don't own me Such a pretty girl, you don't know what you're in for, nah Nice suit, do you miss the factory? Metal machines churning chocolate Under blinking lights fluorescent And nothing's incandescent Get stuck back in! Hey you with the arms and the legs, I need your expertise Why be like that? We're human beings not ants Oh yeah, I learned how life is in the chocolate factory! And I'm not here to hold your coffee I made it to the islands but spent all my money, woops Such a pretty girl, you don't know what you're in for Nice suit, do you miss the factory? Metal machines churning chocolate Under blinking lights fluorescent And nothing's incandescent Get stuck back in! If I catch anyone with their hands in their pockets, I'm docking paychecks Seriously? You told a grandma that Oh yeah, I learned how life is in the chocolate factory! Oh yeah, I learned that power breeds dicks in the chocolate factory! No minimum wage is worth this in the chocolate factory Baby I know all about your demons Know all their all names, yeah I see them and ooh Bring those demons to me Because baby Don't you know I know all about your demons Gave them all names yeah I see them and ooh Bring those demons to me Bring them all to me

Wait! We coulda been something to see Hey! You coulda stayed here with me, and Why did you do it Would you still do it My memory's stuck between Shame on me You never know what you're after And c'est la vie Can't stop your heart beating faster Can't save yourself from disaster I'm still thinking bout those Flowers that you'd wear And whether someone cared Flowers that you'd wear in your hair And whether someone cared you were there Wait! We coulda been something Hey! Are you where you wanted to be And they say don't talk about it? Fuck that, I'll shout it Cause I'm left here ruminating Shame on me You never know what you're after And c'est la vie Can't stop your heart beating faster Can't save yourself from disaster I'm still thinking bout those Flowers that you'd wear And whether someone cared Flowers that you'd wear in your hair And whether someone cared you were there Ooooh Go and get it girl, run faster Never look back onto greener pasture Go ahead, get lit Old soul, new skin Get it while you can, seek risks Steep cliffs, might trip Fear not, you got this Commit Cash poor, time rich Cash poor, time rich Shame on me

I first heard his name in the bottom of a tugboat in Wellington Where a rock star so slim he bent in the wind was recording an album He put on some music while tuning his amps And the sound that crawled out was ma-ma-ma magic. It was spun from hypnotic madness It was rhythmic dirty and tragic Had the knowledge that comes from sadness but still sounded fresh My heart had been caught it took off with abandon Eyes glowed like a bull seeing red Asked what it was, and he said, “Peter Gutteridge" A few days later I was on tour with the band You wanna come? He asked. Cause we got room in the van Fuck yes I did, 'cause they were headed to Dunedin Where liquid handcuffs had chained all the mamamamama musicians And the best lived in a villa at the bottom of a valley As far from London and Berlin as you can get We took to its back streets on acid, on prowl for the missing legend, saying “Come out come out, Peter Gutteridge!” The smoke still curls up from pavements black At times I swear it still unfurls from his cigarettes Bent from his lips as nimble fingers dance Across the keys and strings as he swayed in a trance I loved you Why’d you have to leave? Us behind with our minds stuck on all the things Although you’re gone, I know you’re not dead ‘Cause your memory’s keeping company with the voices in my head And as I roam around I still see all the things that you said You still live Peter Gutteridge!

about

Naive is a tidy summary of this first EP from PGX, an all-girl band born on the road between Christchurch and Dunedin in 2017.

Who are PGX? They themselves aren’t sure. PGX was a bunch of girls until one of them found his true self. They started as flatmates who became bandmates after long nights over glasses of wine dissecting melodies and discussing ideas that may or may not belong together.

PGX are not trying to channel any sonic influences. They’re not sure what sound they’re going for but are finding their way with distortion and catchy turns of phrase over simple rhythms. A big part of their sound is the left field spoken word vocal cadence that’s part storytelling, part poetic.

Consistent themes over the course of a song aren’t always front and centre on this EP, but there are tales of South Island adventure—questing to find a Flying Nun legend, malaise—the troubles of minimum wage jobs in Dunedin, and the odd feminism line thrown in.

This EP shows a band on the journey of learning their instruments: two guitars, a bass, and drums. Producer Brian Feary chose practice amps because he felt it mirrored where the band was at: interesting lo-fi.

Naive is happy and earnest, with a contagious fun that makes you want to join a band.
